Why Remedy
REMEDY... that one word describes both what Jesus did for us and who he calls us to be in our life.
We believe that God is perfect love. Out of that love God chose to create us. But God did not create us in a way that we were forced to love our Creator, rather God gave us the ability to choose. When we choose to go our own way and do our own thing... when we act in ways that are selfish, rude, evil, hateful or apathetic what we've done is chosen to not follow the way God created us. Essentially we've said that we know better than our Creator how to live. As a result the world and our life is full of junk - the world is now broken and so are we. Choosing God means a perfect eternal life... choosing ourselves means living in a broken world ultimately ending in death.
But God has a remedy. God comes to us as Jesus Christ. Jesus lived a perfect life facing all the same temptations and junk that we face. Jesus then was killed by humanity because of humanity's jealousy over that perfect life. This death was Jesus' way of accepting the consequences for every bad thing we have ever done or will do. But death wasn't the last word for Jesus. As God, Jesus came back to life. Jesus defeated death! Because of Jesus' perfect life, death, and life again we can have a second chance... we get another chance to choose God and to live an eternal life with God starting now and going on forever. JESUS is our REMEDY!
Jesus saves us... Jesus is our remedy. But we are not just saved from something - we are not just saved from death. Rather we are saved to something. We are saved to a new life with God; we are saved to a new identity as a child of God. The role and purpose of our new identity is not to just live selfishly for ourselves because we no longer belong to ourselves - we have chosen God, not ourselves. The role and purpose of our new identity is to show the world God's love - to bring God's remedy to the world. JESUS wants to use us to bring his REMEDY to the world.
The REMEDY of Jesus - its our rescue and our mission!
